Miscellaneous: Sheets Cemetery records/expenses: Stark co., Illinois. 19 Peter Sheets gave the ground in the old part of the cemetery and it was to be used for that purpose only. He specified that it was to be taken care of down through the years.

This information was written in a composition book on January 1, 1906 by Sarah Ann Graves Cox, wife of Charles Henry Cox. This book contained the records of expenses paid for mowing and cleaning the grounds. Later her niece, Cynthia Cox in Toulon took over the records.

The Sheets Cemetery began in 1840. On September 13,k 1911 Essex Cemetery Association was formed, but on April 6, 1912 the name changed to Sheets Cemetery. A certificate of organization from the State of Illinois was recorded on Noember 2, 1912 in Stark County. On December 17, 1913 Martha M. Cox bough .96 acres from A. J. Simmerman for $192.00 and donated it to the cemetery.

About 1897 the Methodist Protestant (M.P.) Church was organzied by Miss Lee Anna Star, and ordained minister from Pennsylvania. The church stood in fromt of the cemetery along the road. It was well attended and had a Sunday School for those in the surrounding territory of Essex Township. It closed and was sold ini 1926.
