Arnold Prouty was born in 1797 at Newport, Orleans co., Vermont. He married Sarah "Sally" Adams, daughter of Martin and Mercy Adams, on 8 Feb 1818. They set up housekeeping in the house her father had built, which was the first frame house in Newport, and the house stayed in the family for several more generations.
In his life, he cleared twelve farms, and was a hard worker, at one point in his life having to get his grain to the mill by rowing ten miles, then walking over hills to get to the mill.
Sally Prouty died in Jan 1881, and Arnold died 20 Mar 1881, at Newport. They were the parents of eight children: Emily, Charles, Rosella, John Azro, Lydia, Mary, Alfred and William.
