Earl William Seeman was born on 16 or 18 Sep 1897 in Freeport, Illinois. As a young child, he moved with his family to Dubuque, Iowa for a short time, and then set up permanent residence in Rockham, South Dakota, where his father practiced medicine.
He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard when he was 20 years old, and was an expressman. He was described as having blue eys, brown hair, and a fair complexion. He was 5'6". He was honorably discharged in Iowa on 05 Mar 1920, after a service of two years. After his discharge, he was active in helping to found the Rockham American Legion Post.
On 22 Nov 1920, he married Mary Rose Joyce, daughter of Patrick and Frances (Stemper) Joyce. Mary was born on 01 Dec 1897 in northern Hand county. Earl worked as a farmer. They had three children: Milford, Robert, and John.
He became ill with colon cancer, and sought out medical help from as far away as the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, but there was nothing else that could be done for him. Seven months after his illness was diagnosed, he died on 23 Jul 1927, at the age of 29, and was buried in the Seeman family plot at Rockham Grace Cemetery at Rockham.
Mary married James Yost, and had four more children. She died on 01 Aug 1992 in Miller, South Dakota, at the age of 94.
