Leona Seeman was the first child of Henry and Eva Seeman, born in Thurman, Colorado in 1889. She was born a "blue baby", referring to a congenital heart malformation which resulted in a blue cast to the skin. At that particular time, no surgical intervention was available. At about the age of six, her family moved to Stephenson co., Illinois.
Leona died on 22 Apr 1897 in Freeport, Illinois, from double pneumonia, and was buried at Lane Cemetery, Florence, Illinois, very near to her maternal grandfather's farm.
