Fourth Generation


56. Detlef SEEMANN was born on 11 May 1831 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to John Henry and Anna Maria "Mary" SEEMANN.  He was the first of his to immigrate, arriving in Iowa about 1853.  The following year, his brother Hans and his family, brother Peter, and Detleff's fiancee, Elizabeth Petersen (sister to Hans' wife), arrived, and the year after that, the parents plus a younger brother left Germany.  Another brother, Frederick, also came over about 1853.

 

Detlef and Elizabeth C. PETERSEN were married in 1855 in Clinton co., Iowa.  She was the daughter of Andrew and Maria PETERSEN, and  born on 26 Jun 1837 in Germany.  They raised their family and farmed in Jackson co., Iowa.

 

Detleff died 28 Aug 1899 from "heart trouble" in Green Island, Jackson co.  He was buried in Reeseville Cemetery in Jackson co.  Elizabeth died on 24 Jan 1908 in Haileyville, Oklahoma; she was originally buried at Haileyville, but later moved to Reeseville cemetery and buried with her husband.
