Oluf Lenius

Oluf, with his grandson Ivar, during a trip to Norway.

Oluf was born 17 Feb 1890 at Nærøy.  He and Laura Bergitte Hundhammer were the parents of one daughter, Eldbjørg, born 26 Apr 1913.

Oluf left Norway on 28 Mar 1914, leaving from Trondheim and arriving at the Port of Halifax in Nova Scotia, and made his way into the United States at Sault St. Marie, Michigan via the Canadian Pacific Railway.  It is presumed he went directly to South Dakota from there.

He married Ingrid Rognan (1888 - 1946) on 30 Mar 1916 in Volga, South Dakota.

In 1917, as a young farmer near Volga, he registered for the draft for World War I.

He filed a Declaration of Intent to become a citizen, and was granted United States citizenship on 05 Jun 1923.

His wife passed away on 26 May 1946 in Canton, South Dakota, and he died on 20 Jun 1959 near Canton.  They are both buried at Grand Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lincoln co., South Dakota.

Oluf and Ingrid were the parents of Edna, Ole, Roy, Carl, and Joyce.
